2030 SDGs Game
What is the 2030 SDGs Game??
The 2030 SDGs Game is a multiplayer, in-person, card-based game that simulates taking the “real world” into the year 2030.
Designed in Japan by Imacocollabo company in 2016, this experience has become a powerful and impactful social phenomenon in Japan, earning extensive media coverage and reaching over 300,000 participants worldwide.
2030 SDGs Game events are held in corporate, governmental, educational, and community settings. We now have over 1,000 certified facilitators in Japan and around 100 globally. Now, due to a growing demand to bring the game to the rest of the world, we have created an English edition and are beginning to introduce it to a wider audience overseas.
The game is designed to be played with anywhere from 5 to 50 players. (That number can be expanded to a maximum of around 200 with multiple parallel ‘worlds’ operating simultaneously.)
Playtime is approximately 1 hour; with the necessary explanation and reflection afterward, it requires a minimum of 90 minutes and generally works best in 2 ½ hours. This game is suitable for participants above the age of ten and up and adults.
iNNOVGoals is an Authorized Facilitator of the 2030 SDGs Game (since 2018). We have experienced English-speaking and Chinese-speaking Certified Game Facilitators, as well as continuous partnerships with overseas facilitators.
Why make it a game?
The SDGs are ambitious and can seem overwhelming, simply due to their volume and scope. While dramatic in their potential impact on the world, approaching them can be daunting.
A game approach has three powerful advantages:
It gives people a direct experience of participating in co-creating a sustainable world (“I can do it”; “what I do makes a difference.”)
It simplifies and makes accessible an extremely complex issue to a level that allows people to begin to understand while stimulating our natural curiosity to learn more.
It activates players’ natural instincts to set their aim toward a worthy goal, simultaneously building confidence and making it enjoyable, while inspiring and motivating players to take action in the real world.
